About

Cambridge Artworks is a community of 18 artists, working in studios in a former cabinet-maker’s workshop near the centre of Cambridge. The studios are run as an artist co-operative where all artists share in the decision-making process and with the day-to-day running of the studios. As well as studio space, the building houses ArtSpace gallery. It is used for exhibitions, workshops and taught courses and is available for hire.

 History

Cambridge Artworks was the brainchild of artist Jenny Eadon, who brought together a group of like-minded people to set up the original Artworks studio co-operative. They converted former offices in Negus Yard, into a collection of artist studios and went on to secure funding and constitute Cambridge Artworks Ltd. in September 1994.

When the original site was re-developed in 2000, the artists relocated to the current site in Green’s Road where a workshop was converted into the studios Artworks occupies today. The founders’ mission statement remains our mission; ‘to provide visual artists with affordable studio space and to act as a resource within the local community’. For over two decades over a hundred artists have benefited from Artworks.
